Duplex Steel Bars
Duplex stainless steel, an alloy that contains both austenite and ferrite phases, is used to make duplex steel bars. They have good weldability, high strength and excellent corrosion resistance due to their dual microstructure. They outperform many common stainless steels in terms of resistance to pitting, stress corrosion, and cracking. These bars are extensively utilized in the chemical, oil and gas, and marine industries where resilience in harsh conditions is essential. Metracore Alloys produces accurate chemically balanced, premium duplex steel bars. For added strength they usually include nitrogen, 2.5–3.5% molybdenum, 4.5–6.5% nickel, and 21–23% chromium. Duplex steel round bars meet standards such as ASTM A276 and ASME SA276. They are available in sizes from 6 mm to 120 mm, with diameters up to 350 mm , lengths between 1 to 6 meters and in different forms including round, square, hex, and rectangular. They show strong resistance to general corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Their strength is almost double that of common austenitic steels, making lighter constructions achievable. These bars also endure pitting, crevice corrosion, and fatigue, while offering good weldability and impact strength.
Because of these properties, duplex steel bars are used in a wide range of industries. They are important in oil & gas pipelines, offshore structures, and marine applications. In chemical and petrochemical plants, they perform well against harsh chemicals and chlorides. They are also used in wastewater treatment, power generation, aerospace, and food processing. The production process includes melting raw materials in an electric furnace, casting into billets, hot rolling into rods, annealing for stress relief, and cutting to size. This controlled process ensures consistency in strength and corrosion resistance.
