Waspaloy Filler Wire

Metracore Alloys Private Limited supplies and exports Waspaloy filler wire to fabricators, turbine overhaul units and aerospace subcontractors across India and abroad. Waspaloy is a nickel-based, age-hardenable superalloy designated UNS N07001 and Werkstoff 2.4654, strengthened by gamma prime precipitation with a solvus near 1030°C. Chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, titanium and aluminium make up the alloying system.

We hold the grade as TIG filler wire, MIG welding wire and straight-length filler rods in diameters from 0.76 mm to 4.70 mm, on spools, reels, coils and 914 mm cut lengths. Bare rod and wire of this composition follow AMS 5828, the aerospace specification for vacuum induction melted, solution heat treated welding wire at a nominal 57Ni-19.5Cr-13.5Co-4.2Mo-3.1Ti-1.4Al-0.006B. The weld metal stays strong between 540°C and 980°C, resists oxidation and hot corrosion to about 870°C, and serves critical rotating applications up to around 650°C.

Gas turbine fabrication and overhaul account for most consumption, and every consignment carries a mill test certificate with heat-lot identification. Send us the diameter, form and specification revision, and we’ll confirm stock.

Waspaloy Filler Wire Grade & Designations

Waspaloy identifies the Ni-Cr-Co-Mo-Ti-Al superalloy family developed for turbine hot-section duty. Filler metal of this name matches the base alloy rather than substituting a solid-solution grade.

UNS N07001 covers the chemistry across bars, sheets, forgings and welding wire.

AMS 5828 governs the welding wire form, requiring vacuum induction melting and solution heat-treated delivery.

Filler-metal classification under AWS A5.14 does not extend to this composition, so the wire is bought against AMS 5828 and customer specifications.

Waspaloy filler wire sits outside the AWS A5.14 classification system, so AMS 5828 governs chemistry, melting route and delivery condition. Vacuum induction melting applies across every diameter from 0.76 mm to 4.70 mm.

Limits below follow AMS 5828 for welding wire, which differs from the bar and sheet specifications for the same alloy.

Titanium and aluminium drive precipitation strengthening by forming the gamma prime phase, which blocks dislocation movement. Chromium builds the protective oxide film. Cobalt and molybdenum stiffen the matrix against creep, while boron and zirconium segregate to grain boundaries and lift stress-rupture life. Manganese, silicon and copper are each held to 0.10% max, with sulphur and phosphorus at 0.010% max. Those tight residual limits are part of what separates the welding wire specification from the bar and sheet specifications.

Six characteristics decide where this filler metal earns specification.

  • Strength at temperature: The deposit holds mechanical strength across the 540°C to 980°C range, with the full properties developed once the assembly runs the parent ageing cycle.
  • Creep resistance: Gamma prime volume fraction carries the load under sustained stress.
  • Stress-rupture performance: Boron and zirconium additions strengthen grain boundaries, which lifts rupture life at temperature.
  • Oxidation resistance: Chromium sustains a protective scale to roughly 870°C.
  • Age-hardening capability: Weldments respond to the parent metal cycle: solution treatment, stabilisation at 845°C, then ageing at 760°C.
  • Hardness and density: Hardness moves from roughly 95 HRB in the soft condition to 34-44 HRC when aged, which is how the deposit tracks the parent part through post-weld treatment.

Waspaloy Filler Wire Standards

AMS 5828 controls Waspaloy in bare welding rod and wire form, fixing chemistry, melting route and delivery condition.

UNS N07001 ties the filler metal to the chemistry family of the base material, which is what makes matching-composition welding possible.

AWS A5.14 and ASME SFA-5.14 classify nickel-alloy bare electrodes and rods, yet neither designates this composition; ERNiCrCoMo-1 and ERNiCrCoMo-2 cover other alloys.

ISO 18274 classifies solid nickel-alloy wires and rods by chemical composition.

Customer and project specifications often sit above these on aerospace orders, and the governing document depends on filler form, welding process, base material and service conditions.

Why Choose Metracore Alloys Private Limited?

We carry Waspaloy filler wire across the full diameter band in TIG, MIG and straight-length forms so procurement teams don’t have to split an order. Every heat arrives with composition verification to the AMS 5828 limits, plus lot traceability through to dispatch. Every despatch carries a material test certificate, plus a certificate of conformity where the purchase specification calls for one. Packaging suits the grade: sealed polyethylene envelopes, desiccant on request, flag tagging on straight lengths. Domestic and export orders draw on the same stock, with bulk quantities and cut-to-length work handled to order. Send your specification revision and diameters for a quotation.

Waspaloy Filler Wire Sizes

Wire and rod diameters span 0.76 mm to 4.70 mm, taking in 0.80, 0.89, 1.00, 1.10, 1.20, 1.60, 2.00, 2.40, 3.20 and 4.00 mm. The coarsest sizes don’t wind onto MIG spools.

Straight lengths measure 914 mm as standard, packed in 2.2 kg units. Spools come on 300 mm formers, with 200 mm and 100 mm sizes to order.

Applications of Waspaloy Filler Wire

Waspaloy Filler Wire FAQs

What Are the Main Properties of Waspaloy Filler Wire?

Waspaloy filler wire delivers high-temperature strength, creep resistance, stress-rupture strength, oxidation resistance to about 870°C and age-hardening response. Gamma prime precipitation from titanium and aluminium provides the mechanism.

Diameters range from 0.76 mm to 4.70 mm, with ten standard sizes across that band. Straight lengths measure 914 mm.

Waspaloy filler wire can be used for TIG welding, and GTAW is its most common application. Argon shielding on both sides of the joint and pre-weld cleaning are required.

Gas metal arc welding is a recognised process for this grade, using spooled wire with controlled cast and helix.

Gas turbine and aerospace hardware accounts for most usage, from compressor discs to shafts, seals, casings and high-temperature fasteners.

AMS 5828 is the primary specification, alongside the UNS N07001 chemistry designation. AWS A5.14 carries no classification for this composition, so customer specifications often supplement it.

Every mill test certificate shows chemical analysis against AMS 5828 limits, with heat and lot identification for traceability.
