What Are Alloy 286 Pipe Fittings?

Alloy 286 Pipe Fittings comprise pressure-retaining elbows, tees, reducers, and end caps produced from the iron-based superalloy A-286. The material gains its strength from a gamma prime precipitate, Ni3(Ti,Al), formed by solution treating at around 980°C and ageing near 720°C for 16 hours. Nickel at 24-27% stabilises the austenitic matrix. Chromium at 13.5-16% builds the protective oxide film. Under heavy loads, A286 Pipe Fittings behave differently from standard austenitic grades: creep resistance and rupture strength stay high up to 700°C, so welded joints don’t relax or leak. The grade welds with matching filler; post-weld ageing restores full properties.
