Alloy Steel Pipe Fittings hold the same internal pressure as the pipe they join. They turn the line, open branch connections, step the bore up or down and seal off dead ends. Chromium from 1.00 to 10.00% and molybdenum from 0.44 to 1.13% give these components their advantage: oxidation resistance at red heat, plus creep strength that carbon steel surrenders above 400°C. Refineries, ethylene crackers, boiler houses and fertiliser plants specify Alloy Fittings for that reason. Construction and general manufacturing draw on the lower grades for hot oil duty.
Butt weld sizes follow the NPS 1/2 to 48 coverage of ASME B16.9, and forged fittings run NPS 1/8 to 4 under ASME B16.11. Mill test certificates traceable to the heat number travel with every consignment.

Alloy Pipe Fittings Grades
Grade
Six ASTM A234 grades cover most requirements, separated mainly by chromium content.
- ASTM A234 WP1 carries 0.44 to 0.65% molybdenum with no chromium. Steam lines and moderately elevated-temperature piping use it.
- ASTM A234 WP5 holds 4.0 to 6.0% chromium with 0.44 to 0.65% molybdenum, chosen in crude units against sulphidic corrosion.
- ASTM A234 WP9 raises chromium to 8.0 to 10.0% and molybdenum to 0.90 to 1.10%, holding strength where WP5 thins.
- ASTM A234 WP11 runs 1.00 to 1.50% chromium and 0.44 to 0.65% molybdenum, in Classes 1, 2 and 3. Refinery and power plant piping take up most of the volume.
- ASTM A234 WP22 is the 2.25Cr-1Mo grade: 1.90 to 2.60% chromium, 0.87 to 1.13% molybdenum. Main steam and hot reheat lines run on it.
- ASTM A234 WP91 combines 8.0 to 9.5% chromium with vanadium at 0.18 to 0.25%. Supercritical boiler piping near 600°C needs it.
Chrome-moly grades aren’t worth the premium on ambient water or air service, where carbon steel WPB costs less.
Alloy Pipe Fittings Standards
Five standards govern most alloy fitting supply, and the right one follows from the forming route.
- ASME B16.9 covers wrought butt-weld fittings, NPS 1/2 to 48.
- ASME B16.11 covers forged socket-weld and threaded fittings, NPS 1/8 to 4.
- ASTM A234 fixes chemistry, heat treatment and mechanical properties.
- ASME B16.28 applies to short-radius elbows and return bends.
- ASTM A420 governs low-temperature grades such as WPL6, not the Cr-Mo family.
MSS SP-43 suits lightweight corrosion-resistant fittings and rarely applies to chrome-moly work, while EN 10253-2 takes over on European specifications. Under ASTM A960, the Alloy Pipe Fittings Manufacturer marks each item with grade, size and heat number. Service conditions decide which standard the order names.

Alloy Pipe Fittings Connection Types
Three connection options cover the alloy fittings we supply.
- Butt Weld. Bevelled ends at 37.5° join the pipe with a full penetration weld. Process, power and header piping use this connection because the joint accepts radiography.
- Socket Weld. Socket ends take the pipe into a bored recess, with a 1.6 mm gap left before welding for expansion. Small-bore pressure lines at NPS 2 and below rely on them.
- Threaded. NPT or BSP profiles are made without hot work. Utility lines, drains and instrument connections use them where the specification permits a screwed joint.
