Nitronic Forgings
Metracore Alloys Private Limited manufactures and supplies Nitronic Forgings in nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless grades to fabricators, valve builders and plant maintenance teams in India and overseas. Available materials cover Nitronic 40, Nitronic 50 and Nitronic 60 as rings, shafts, discs, bars, blocks, sleeves and custom shapes. Nitronic 50 in the high-strength (HS) condition is supplied as a mill bar instead of a forging because its strength comes from careful processing at the mill, which is lost during hot forging or solution annealing. Nitrogen strengthening lifts yield strength well above 304 and 316L. Nitronic 50 reaches roughly twice the annealed yield of those grades, and Nitronic 40 and 60 sit around 1.7 times. Chloride pitting resistance improves, and Nitronic 60 adds galling resistance in unlubricated sliding contact, making them suitable for components exposed to heavy loads in seawater, acids, and dry-sliding contact. Galling resistance drives most Nitronic 60 enquiries. Chemical processing, oil and gas, power generation, marine, aerospace and food processing all specify the family.
Nitronic Forgings Standards
Applicable standards shift with grade, product form, forging method, section size, heat treatment and service duty. ASTM A182 governs forged flanges, fittings, and valve parts, with Nitronic 50 designated as FXM-19. Bar and shape products fall under ASTM A276, while ASTM A479 adds pressure vessel qualification. Bolting follows ASTM A193: Grade B8R for S20910 and Grade B8S for S21800. AMS 5656, AMS 5764 and AMS 5848 cover Nitronic 40, 50 and 60 in aerospace work.
Nitronic Forgings Sizes
Dimensional capability depends on the forging method and the mill supplying the billet. Rings are quoted by outside diameter, inside diameter, wall thickness and height, while shafts are quoted by diameter against length. Discs and blocks work by diameter or width, length and thickness. Piece weight matters as much as any linear dimension, since it decides press capacity and quench route. Material ships as-forged, rough-machined, or proof-machined.

Nitronic Forgings Grades
Four grades cover most industrial demand: Nitronic 40, Nitronic 50, Nitronic 60 and the higher-strength Nitronic 50HS.
Nitronic 40
Nitronic 40 covers UNS S21900 and S21904, listed as XM-10 and XM-11. The two share the same chromium, nickel, manganese and nitrogen bands under ASTM A276; XM-11 is the lower-carbon variant. Confirm which UNS number applies before ordering. Chromium sits at 19.0 to 21.5%, nickel at 5.5 to 7.5%, manganese at 8.0 to 10.0%, and nitrogen at 0.15 to 0.40%. An annealed bar to ASTM A479 meets 620 MPa tensile and 345 MPa yield at 45% elongation.
Nitronic 50
UNS S20910, better known as XM-19, holds 20.5 to 23.5% chromium, 11.5 to 13.5% nickel, 4.0 to 6.0% manganese, 1.5 to 3.0% molybdenum and 0.20 to 0.40% nitrogen. Annealed minimums reach 690 MPa tensile and 380 MPa yield at 35% elongation. Pitting and crevice resistance beat Type 316L in most media. NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-3 accepts S20910 for sour service at a maximum hardness of 35 HRC in the solution-annealed or hot-worked condition. Where cold work is applied, as on valve stems, pins and shafts, the standard requires solution annealing first.
Nitronic 60
Galling resistance defines UNS S21800. Silicon at 3.5 to 4.5% and manganese at 7.0 to 9.0% alter the surface oxide, so self-mated faces slide instead of seizing. ASTM A479 annealed minimums are 655 MPa tensile, 345 MPa yield and 35% elongation.
Nitronic 50HS
Nitronic 50HS is the high-strength condition of S20910, not a separate chemistry. In ASTM A479, the high-strength condition carries a minimum yield of 725 MPa in sizes up to 50.8 mm, against 380 MPa for the same grade annealed.

FAQs
What are Nitronic Forgings?
Nitronic forgings are components made from nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steel, which is hot-forged and then solution-annealed to develop the specified properties.
What grades are commonly used for Nitronic Forgings?
Four grades cover most orders: Nitronic 40 (S21900/S21904), Nitronic 50 (S20910), Nitronic 60 (S21800) and Nitronic 50HS.
Why are Nitronic Forgings used for industrial components?
Nitrogen strengthening provides double the yield strength of 304 and 316L, with chloride pitting resistance added and, for Nitronic 60, galling resistance in unlubricated sliding contact.
What types of Nitronic Forgings are available?
Rings, shafts, discs, bars, blocks, sleeves and custom shapes are available in open-die or closed-die form, depending on quantity and geometry.
What standards apply to Nitronic Forgings?
ASTM A182 applies to forged pressure components, A276 and A479 to bar and shape, A193 and A194 to bolting, and AMS 5656, 5764 and 5848 to aerospace work.
Can Nitronic Forgings be customised?
Yes. Dimensions, machining allowance, surface condition and test scope follow the drawing submitted with the enquiry.
