UNS C70600 is built on a nominal 90% copper and 10% nickel split, with iron and manganese added in controlled amounts to toughen the protective surface film. The chemistry conforms to the C70600 composition limits common to ASTM B151, B171, and B466. In seawater, the grade resists corrosion and erosion while its surface prevents marine growth, and that combination makes it an approved material for shipbuilding and desalination. Thermal conductivity remains high enough for condenser and heat-exchanger duty.

What Are Cupro Nickel 90/10 Forgings?

Cupro Nickel 90/10 forgings (CuNi10Fe1Mn) are high-strength alloy components shaped under compressive force, annealed, and machined. Containing 9.0–11.0% nickel and 1.0–1.8% iron, the alloy’s forged grain flow provides superior density, impact strength, and fatigue resistance compared to castings. With a minimum tensile strength of 275 MPa and 30% elongation, thinner sections can be safely used.

 

In saltwater, it rapidly forms a self-healing cuprous oxide film that naturally inhibits biofouling and keeps corrosion rates low and predictable, ensuring decades of reliable service in continuous marine applications.
