That nickel level holds the austenitic structure stable at temperatures where standard stainless steel starts to lose creep strength. Chromium builds the oxide film that resists scaling in furnace and flue gas service, and molybdenum in grade 625 adds pitting resistance in chloride media. Engineers specify these fittings for high-temperature, high-pressure, and acid-bearing circuits. Chemical processing, petrochemical, oil and gas, aerospace, power generation and marine systems drive most demand. Compliance follows ASTM B366 and ASME B16.9 for butt-weld fittings, and ASTM B564 with ASME B16.11 for forged fittings. Grade 718 falls outside B366 and B564, so 718 products are supplied to ASTM B637 or AMS 5662/5663 material requirements with B16.9 or B16.11 dimensions agreed on the order.
Inconel Pipe Fittings Grades
Five grade families address five different service problems.
Inconel 600: carries roughly 72% nickel with 14 to 17% chromium and resists chloride stress corrosion cracking. Heat treatment furnaces and reactors use it regularly.
Inconel 601: Higher chromium at 21 to 25%, plus 1 to 1.7% aluminium, gives Inconel 601 its scaling resistance. Radiant tubes and furnace internals are the usual duty.
Inconel 625: combines 8 to 10% molybdenum with 3.15 to 4.15% niobium plus tantalum. Annealed material meets 827 MPa minimum tensile strength. Seawater and acid duty favour it.
Inconel 718: Precipitation hardening through niobium and titanium lifts aged Inconel 718 past 1000 MPa tensile strength. Aerospace and turbine hardware use it. It isn’t the grade for wet chloride service, where 625 performs better.
Inconel 800 / 800H / 800HT: These nickel-iron-chromium alloys hold 30 to 35% nickel and a minimum of 39.5% iron. Carbon control in 800H and 800HT holds creep strength above 600°C, which is why reformer outlet piping and furnace headers rely on them.

Inconel Pipe Fittings Standards
Standards apply by fitting type, not by alloy alone. ASME B16.9 sets dimensions and tolerances for wrought butt-welding fittings from NPS 1/2 through NPS 48. ASME B16.11 governs forged socket-weld and threaded fittings up to NPS 4. On the material side, ASTM B366 specifies wrought nickel alloy welding fittings, and ASTM B564 covers nickel alloy forgings. ASTM B462 covers a separate list of corrosion-resistant nickel alloys such as Alloy 20 (N08020), N08367, Hastelloy C-276 (N10276) and C-22 (N06022). It excludes the 600, 625, and 800 series, so it is not the governing forging specification for this range. MSS SP-43 covers lighter wall butt weld fittings for low-pressure corrosion-resistant service. ASTM B366 recognises it: fittings marked with the CR prefix are made to MSS SP-43 dimensions, while WP-grade fittings follow ASME B16.9 or B16.11. EN and DIN references appear where a European specification calls for them.
Inconel Pipe Fittings Sizes
Butt weld fittings run from 1/2″ NPS (DN 15) to 24″ NPS (DN 600), with fabricated items to 48″ on request. Forged socket weld and threaded fittings cover 1/8″ to 4″ NPS in Class 2000, 3000, 6000 and 9000. Wall thickness follows the matching pipe schedule, SCH 5S through XXS, so the outside diameter stays aligned with ASME B36.19M. Tolerance corresponds to the governing standard and the fitting configuration, never to a blanket figure.
Inconel Pipe Fittings Connection Types
Three connection formats cover nearly every piping design: butt weld, socket weld, and threaded.
Butt Weld. Butt-weld ends create a permanent joint with full wall penetration. Process piping above 2″ NPS uses this format because the bore stays smooth and crevice-free.
Socket Weld. Socket weld fittings take the pipe into a machined recess before filleting. Instrument and utility lines up to 4″ NPS use them where a compact joint is required.
Threaded. Threaded ends follow NPT profiles and suit lines where welding isn’t practical. Sampling connections and maintenance-heavy utility circuits are common examples.
