Zirconium 702 Forgings

Metracore Alloys manufactures and supplies zirconium 702 forgings to chemical processing plants, acid producers, and nuclear engineering contractors in India and abroad. We make sure each batch passes three checks before dispatch: corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and dimensional accuracy. Zirconium Grade 702, designated UNS R60702, is commercially pure zirconium. This grade can handle strong acids and high temperatures. and tough processing conditions while keeping its excellent mechanical integrity, which is why forged parts made from it are used in chemical reactors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and process equipment. Zirconium grade 702 forgings reach our customers as forged rings, discs, or fully custom shapes made to their drawings.

What are Zirconium 702 forgings?

Zirconium 702 forgings are components shaped by controlled hot working of commercially pure zirconium. Reactor grades have hafnium removed to keep neutron absorption low; industrial grades such as Grade 702 retain up to 4.5% hafnium, which doesn’t affect corrosion resistance. The forge heats this reactive metal inside a narrow temperature window, refining grain and closing voids. The finished forging offers excellent corrosion resistance, high ductility and toughness, and good weldability.

Why Choose Metracore Alloys?

Metracore Alloys manufactures premium-quality zirconium forgings and combines advanced manufacturing with reliable supplier support. We produce precision open-die and custom zirconium forgings to customer drawings, followed by precision machining and finishing to meet dimensional and surface requirements. Third-party inspection is available on request, and every order is supplied with a mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1. Export-grade packaging protects finished surfaces during transit, while our global distribution network supports timely delivery worldwide. Share your drawing and delivery location, and we’ll promptly confirm pricing and lead time.

Key Features

Eight performance characteristics matter most in severe chemical service.

  • Acid resistance: The grade withstands hydrochloric, sulphuric and organic acids that corrode stainless steels and nickel alloys.
  • pH Tolerance: Streams that alternate between acidic and alkaline media pose no problem; zirconium tolerates both pH extremes.
  • High-temperature stability: Strength and corrosion behaviour hold steady at reactor and heat exchanger temperatures.
  • Ductility and toughness: It maintains its ductility and toughness at a high level after forging, so parts absorb thermal cycling without cracking.
  • Excellent weldability: Fabricators join the grade with inert gas-shielded processes.
  • Decades of service are realistic, since corrosion wall loss stays negligible in acid duty.
  • Low maintenance: Inspection intervals lengthen, and spare part demand falls.
  • Performance remains dependable in harsh service where high pressure meets aggressive process chemistry.

Inspection & Manufacturing Standards

Recognised standards govern every forging we supply, from melting through final inspection.

  • ASTM B493 governs zirconium forgings
  • ASTM B550 covers bar stock
  • ASTM B551 applies to any sheet or plate feedstock supplied alongside them, and ASME SB551 applies to pressure code work
  • An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate accompanies each consignment
  • Source mill inspection covers ultrasonic testing (UT), PMI testing, chemical analysis and mechanical testing
  • Dimensional and visual inspection close-out for each order

Advantages of Zirconium 702 Forgings

The commercial case for this grade rests on lifetime operating cost rather than purchase price. Six advantages carry the most weight.

  • Exceptional corrosion resistance across diverse process chemistries
  • High purity and structural integrity from controlled forging
  • Excellent performance in acidic environments, including reducing acids
  • Long operational service life with minimal wall loss
  • Reduced maintenance costs over the equipment’s working life
  • Reliable performance in critical process equipment
