What are Tantalum Pipe Fittings?
A tantalum pipe fitting is a connection component formed from unalloyed tantalum for joining, branching, or reducing pipework in corrosive service. Base material purity is a minimum of 99.9% tantalum, with carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen kept low to preserve ductility. Corrosion resistance comes from a tantalum pentoxide film that repairs itself within seconds of surface damage, so hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric, and phosphoric acids cause negligible attack at most concentrations below 150°C. Hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated alkalis are the recognised exceptions, and tantalum isn’t selected for those media. The metal welds cleanly under inert gas shielding and cold forms without cracking. These fittings ensure piping network function for decades.
